Team of teachers beautify school walls in Kadambur Hills in Erode district


A group of teachers from Tiruppur, under the banner Pattampoochi (butterfly), painted the walls of the Periya Gundri Special Training Center in the Kadambur Hills with popular cartoon characters to attract students.

It is one of 15 centers run under the National Child Labor Project (NCLP) in the district where rescued child laborers and dropouts under the age of 14 have been admitted and trained, then enrolled in regular schools. The center with 56 children is managed by the NGO based in Sathyamangalam, Service Unit for Development Activities in Rural Areas (SUDAR) which recently had a facelift with the construction of a new building.

The team, composed of T. Karthikeyan, B. Ravichandran and R. Prabhu led by its coordinator A. Santhosh Kumar, all working in different public schools in Tiruppur district, stayed at the center on December 28 and 29 and completed the paint work. People from popular shows and awareness slogans were painted on the walls. The paintings were sponsored by Inaindha Kaigal, an Avinashi-based trust, while NCLP coordinator C. Sathish helped the team decorate.

“The aim is to motivate and encourage children to create their own drawings and also to make sure that they come to school regularly,” said Mr. Santhosh Kumar. The hindu. He said they had done such paintings in 60 public schools from 2019 to today in the districts of Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode. In Erode District, the team had decorated the NCLP centers in the Vilankombai and Kongadai tribal settlement in the Bargur Hills.
