December 17 – The FIDE World Chess Championship held at the EXPO2020 premises ended in Dubai. The winner, the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (7.5 – 3.5) beat the Russian Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi. In Dubai, Carlsen successfully defended his world title for the fifth time. As part of a partnership agreement between Château La Grace Dieu des Prieurs and FIDE (International Chess Federation), the winner of the World Championship received a special prize from the Russian Chess Federation – a chess set containing the 2015 collection of Russian Art wines from Château La Grâce Dieu des Prieurs.

The Château designed its wine and chess box in 2014 as a tribute to the ancient intellectual game, bringing together the arts of chess, painting and winemaking. The elegant wooden box with a chessboard lid, containing six bottles of the famous Saint-Emilion wine with Russian art on the labels, comes with a set of handmade chess pieces according to a custom design . The idea for the scenography comes from the owner of the winery Andrei Filatov, who considers himself a disciple of Jean Nouvel in the field of design and architecture. Jean Nouvel is one of the world’s most renowned architects and the man behind the Chateau Project of architectural reconstruction of La Grace Dieu des Prior, as well as Louvre Abu Dhabi, Qatar National Museum and others. The Château La Grace Dieu des Prieurs wine and chess box is currently competing in the A ‘Design Award, the world’s largest international design competition.

The opening ceremony of the 2021 FIDE World Chess Championship took place on November 24 at the Dubai Opera, with the first Game held on November 26 at the premises of EXPO2020. As part of the corresponding agreement with FIDE, the wine and chess box of Château La Grace Dieu des Prieurs and the Art Russe wine collection are presented in the VIP and Very VIP lounges of the Championship.

CHATEAU LA GRACE DIEU DES PRIEURS @art_russe_wine is a wine estate in the Bordeaux region of France. The Château produces only one wine per year. The labels of the bottles are decorated with reproductions of paintings by Russian artists. Each year, a collection of 12 works plus one for the magnum (1.5 l) is published with the kind permission of the Russian Art Foundation. The Foundation makes works from its collection available under a cooperation agreement with the Château La Grace Dieu des Prieurs.
